A patron got a message that "database access is denied." What are possible reasons for this?
CUNY electronic resources are only available to current CUNY students, faculty and staff.
It's possible that the patron made a typo or entered his or her barcode with spaces.
Off-campus access will not work for barcodes that have fines or blocks associated with their borrower accounts. The patron should visit his or her library's circulation desk for more information and to pay fines. Patrons can also check their fines or blocks by logging on to "My Account" in the CUNY Catalog.
The patron may have tried to use a secondary, instead of a primary, barcode. When you register as a borrower with a CUNY Library for the first time you obtain your "primary" barcode. If you obtain additional barcodes from other schools, they are added to your borrower account in the library system as "secondary" barcodes. For help in finding the primary barcode, patrons should contact their library's circulation desk or send a message to the CUNY Service Desk (make sure to include the non-working barcode number in the message).
Some local groups of patrons may be excluded from electronic resource access. Local patrons should contact their library's Circulation Desk for details.
If a campus manages their own EZproxy, there patron would need to contact their contact their library's circulation desk for instructions on how to follow up their own campus's authentication issues.
